Meet Dr. Jill

I am a Licensed Psychologist and Health Service Provider in the state of Iowa. My Bachelor’s of Arts degree in psychology was earned from Grand View University in Des Moines where I also played volleyball. I earned my Masters of Arts and Doctoral degree from the Illinois Professional School of Psychology in Clinical Psychology. During my training, my pre-doctoral internship was completed at the VA hospitals in Knoxville and Des Moines which was accredited by the American Psychological Association. My doctoral fellowship was completed at the Poweshiek County Mental Health Center in Grinnell, Iowa. I also trained in a therapeutic day school in Illinois and in a substance abuse treatment center under a neuropsychologist in Illinois. In Des Moines, I worked at a substance abuse agency facilitating individual and group therapy and managed the problem gambling treatment center portion of the center. After becoming licensed as a psychologist, I joined a group practice in Urbandale providing individual therapy and diagnostic testing for all ages. My experience also includes teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in psychology. After staying home for a period of time with our four children, I worked in a group practice in Ames, Iowa. After moving to Pella in 2024, I worked at Grace Counseling before starting my own practice.

My clinical experience ranges from pediatric age clients to geriatric populations since 2005. I work with a wide array of clinical disorders and enjoy working with individuals of all ages, families, and couples to address relationship issues, parenting concerns, behavioral issues, stress and/or anger management, existential issues, adjustment disorders, stress management, anxiety and depression.

My passion as a psychologist is to provide effective, collaborative and holistic therapy that results in transformation, growth and healing. My primary treatment modality is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is useful for the treatment of a wide array of mental health issues or to simply manage stressful life situations. It is a collaborative approach where I am able to work with clients to teach them skills to manage their thoughts and behavior. This in turn helps clients to manage their mood and improve their health and wellness. I also have experience with Motivational Interviewing, Logotherapy, and Family Systems therapy. I genuinely believe the therapeutic relationship is key to effective treatment. It is my priority to create safe and trusting relationships with each client where they feel there is a shared ownership in their treatment outcomes. Every client will know that I care as much about their therapy journey as they do. Every treatment plan is tailored to fit the needs of each client. I integrate various therapeutic approaches such as emotion-focused therapy, client-centered therapy, and mindfulness-centered therapies to customize each client’s treatment. I hold a Christian Worldview and at the discretion of the client, can incorporate this into clinical work. I love psychology and am always learning and researching.

I have four children-high school, middle school and grade school. We stay busy with all their activities. We enjoy traveling, sports, movies, and music, bike rides, and spending time with friends and family. We also love animals and have a Golden Retriever and two cats who are very spoiled!
